Clay Daze!

What a whirlwind! The time has flown and we're already starting Day 3 of Clay Daze. We decided to take a low key "Island Time" approach to this event and there are no scheduled demos or workshops. It's a happy gathering of friends who share a passion for polymer clay. We're all focused on own own projects but there's constant visiting, sharing, problem solving, epiphanies and inspiration! Tina couldn't make it to Clay Daze but she's joined us online! Our venue is the RCMP Mess Hall which sort of explains The Bison.

We've taken breaks here and there to explore some fun places to shop, eat, and drink! We even managed to find 10 seats all together in a very busy Saturday night in Spinnakers Brew Pub!
We have 28 items in the Silent Auction for Haiti... there are some well-seasoned e-Bayers in this crowd who use the sniper plan of attack so I have a feeling elbow pads and helmets may be required this morning as the deadline for the auction draws near.

CLAY DAZE - Silent Auction for Haitian Earthquake Relief

Members of the Vancouver Island and Vancouver Polymer clay groups are invited to donate and bid on items for our silent auction whether you are attending Clay Daze or not. If you can't make it to Clay Daze you are welcome to email gera with a confidential reserve bid for any item- with luck you may be able to outbid Clay Daze attendees! Payment including shipping if required may be made through PayPal . You may also have a friend proxy-bid for you at the event but they will need a cheque or cash as payment for second-party purchases must be made immediately after the auction.

We regret that The Auction is for members of the Vancouver Island and Vancouver area Polymer Clay Groups only. Check this site frequently as we hope that new items will be added daily!

SPECIAL FEATURES – The Island Guild will host and supply items for a Garage Sale of clay-related items with profits going to their guild. (If you have anything you’d like to donate it would be most welcome).

Sales Tables-

If you would like to book a table to sell your work or associated supplies please contact Gera at amusedcreations@shaw.ca. Tables may be shared but space is limited. Vendors are responsible for shelving, display grids etc. The $10 table fee may be added to your registration cost.

Exhibition of Polymer Clay Art and Craft

We will feature an exhibition of Polymer Clay Art and Craft. If you would like to participate in the exhibition please email Gera at amusedcreations@shaw.ca before January 20 indicating the type of item(s) you have for display, the price (if the item is for sale), the size & the title of your piece or pieces. Please limit your contributions to the exhibition to three items. Gera will set up the exhibition on Friday afternoon as participants arrive.

TRANSPORTATION – Carpooling is encouraged but we will be available to pick up and drop off from the Swartz Bay or Coho ferry terminals – on Friday and Sunday afternoons only.

Ferry information from Tswassen to Swartz Bay (Sidney) and for Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo) is available here (note the drop-down menu when choosing schedules): http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/tssw-current.html. Fares are available here: https://www.bcferries.com/bcftravelcentre

The Coho Ferry is only running on Jan. 22nd. It leaves Port Angeles only at 8:20 a.m. Details here: http://cohoferry.com/main/?Fares. You may purchase a reservation if you wish. NWPCG members will have to return to the US via BC Ferries through Vancouver.

Pacific Coach Lines (bus) drops passengers off downtown at their terminal and arrangements can be made to pick up and drop off there on Friday and Sunday afternoons only.

ACCOMMODATION – Hotel arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the attendees. Please be prepared to arrive Friday afternoon or early evening to set up your work space. The venue will be open until about 7:00 p.m.

There are dozens of hotels in the area but here are a few that you may consider:

(1) Delta Ocean Pointe – a very short walking distance from our venue this is a beautiful hotel on the waterfront and Songhees Walkway. Address: 45 Songhees Rd. Victoria V9A 6T3. Phone 1-800-667-4677. Best rate: $109 for 2 queen beds (book through www.hotel.ca), up to 2 persons with $30 extra each to a max of 4 persons. Parking $15.

http://www.deltahotels.com/en/hotels/british-columbia/delta-victoria-ocean-pointe-resort/

We recommend this hotel as it will be the quietest of the four and the most luxurious. It is a beautiful building with a view, several great restaurants and a wonderful spa.

(2) Swans Hotel – just across the bridge from our venue located at 506 Pandora Ave., Victoria V8W 1N6. Ph: 250-361-3310. Best rate: $99 for 2 person studio. $209 for 2 bedroom suite – 4 person occupancy with $35 per person extra to a max. of 6 people. Parking $9/day. http://www.swanshotel.com/hotel/suites_rates.php

This is a beautiful “boutique” hotel near Market Square but be advised there is a brewpub downstairs and it is in the nightclub district.

(3) The Bedford Regency Hotel – a few blocks from our venue in downtown Victoria. Address: 1140 Government Street, Victoria V8W 1Y2. Ph: 1-800-665-6500. Best deal: $85 for 2 queen beds, double occupancy, $20 extra per person up to a max of 4 persons. Book at www.travelocity.ca. Parking $10/day.

http://www.bedfordregency.com/index.htm

This “boutique” hotel is right in the heart of the shopping district of Government St. Be sure to ask for a quiet room as some rooms will face Wharf St. where the nightclubs tend to be and Government St. might be a little more active at night than you wish.

(4) Best Western Carlton – across the bridge and a block from our venue. Address: 642 Johnson St., Victoria V8W 1M6. Ph. 1-800-663-7241. Best deal: $71 for a variety of rooms (book at www.travelocity.ca 14 days in advance); $79 if not booked that far in advance. $20 extra per person. Parking $9/day.
